The water shoots 34 meters down the ravine. In the midst of the forces of nature, hikers can be showered, calmed and carried away into fantasy worlds by the natural spectacle of the Leuenfall. Shortly after the fall, the water flows into the Wissbach. In summer, the waterfall is a cooling delight. In winter, the waterfall often freezes and creates a tinklingly beautiful water landscape.
The legend of the Altenalp
High above the waterfall, on the edge of the Säntis, lies the Altenalp. A hand boy had to wait there after the descent from the alp at the herdsman's command. It was the same herdsman who had tormented the boy all summer long with all sorts of sensible and senseless tasks. When the boy was alone on the alp, the mountain spirits appeared to him. They announced that he could make one wish. And so it came about that the boy learned to sing in a way that no one else could.
His herdsman, trembling with fear, also wanted to be able to sing as well as he could and climbed the mountain again. After that, no one saw him in one piece. The mountain spirits took revenge on him. All that was found was his skin - stretched out on the roof of the hut to dry.
