The Talalpsee is located above the village of Filzbach in the municipality of Glarus Nord. It is situated in a wild mountain landscape surrounded by the mighty Glarus mountains at 1084 meters above sea level.

The sleeping herb

One autumn, a man from Glarus watched a marmot eating a certain herb and then slipping into its hole to rest for the winter. The man ate exactly the same herb. He became tired and hid in the hay in his stable. There he fell asleep.

When he woke up, he had a long beard and outside it was already spring. At home, the missing man had long been thought dead. People were astonished when they met the man again in the village.

Access

The mountain lake is easily accessible with the Kerenzerbergbahn from Filzbach or via various hiking trails. You can also fish in the Talalpsee. The only fish you will find in the mountain lake are pike. Fishing licenses can be obtained from the Tourist Information at the Glarnerland rest area.
