One of the most famous landmarks in Liestal is the observation tower, which offers a breathtaking view of the idyllic Baselland. The tower was built in 1891 by Liestal Tourism with donations from the local population and is still maintained and preserved by them today.

The 30-meter-high tower is located at a height of 606 meters above sea level and is accessible via a turnstile at the entrance. The entrance fee is 50 cents per person. Next to the tower is the tower restaurant, which is open on Sundays and public holidays (except May 1st and August 1st) and provides visitors with food and drinks. There is a nearby playground for children, which provides fun and games.

Access

The observation tower on the Schleifenberg, also known as "Liestal's local mountain", can be easily reached on foot. The nearest bus stop, "Windenthal", is about a 25-minute walk away. On Sundays and public holidays, it is also permitted to drive to Windenthalhöhe, where there is a large car park. A trip to the observation tower is an unforgettable experience and a must for every visitor to Liestal.
