The Rumensee is located in the municipality of Küsnacht near Zurich and is considered a small but beautiful local recreation area with great importance for nature conservation. Amphibians and large and small birds hide in the reed belt. For the sake of the animals, swimming and fishing in the lake are not allowed. However, there are numerous barbecue areas on the shore where you can relax.

There has been a forest cemetery on the western side for a decade.

Story

The lake was artificially created in the early 18th century to overcome dry periods and to operate the mill even in bad times.

The monster from Lake Rumen

A monster is said to have once lived in the ruins of the small St. Anna Chapel west of the lake. The foundations of the chapel can still be found today. The monster terrified people. The monster's chains are said to have rattled so loudly that the residents of the neighboring farms were terrified. A man from Zolliken is said to have been frightened by this beast in the middle of the night. He fainted immediately at the sight of its hideous face. The next day he woke up in the forest and the terror was still in his limbs. But when he got home, hardly anyone recognized him. His hair had turned completely gray and his face was full of furrows. When his family asked him about what had happened, the man could no longer speak. The beast had robbed him of his ability to speak.
