The sandstone caves of Gränichen are located very close to Liebegg Castle. Not only geologists, but especially children and music lovers find this a fascinating place: the picnic area is occasionally converted into a concert venue.

Story

In the years 1820 to 1860, the community mined sandstone here. Liebegg Castle was able to benefit from this nearby building material. What remains are exciting and steep caves that invite you to climb, play and cool off. Everyone can best provide their own culinary enjoyment at one of the numerous barbecue areas. The nearby Liebegg Castle was for a long time the last castle without a legend. A fifth grade class in Freiamt has taken on this task:

Legend

A long, long time ago, the castle family lived on the Liebegg. Their daughter Rosa was so ugly that she was kept hidden in the tower. Rosa had been cursed to be ugly by the Gränichs, three nasty fellows. When Rosa manages to escape from the tower one day, she comes to the wishing well, which advises her to bake a cake and take it deep into the forest. There Rosa meets the Gränichs. Because they are so ugly, they can see into each other's hearts. Rosa and a Gränich fall in love. But their happiness is shattered by an earthquake in the castle. But even in bad times they stick together and rebuild the castle by hand.
