Story

The Forellensee was artificially created around 1900 as part of the construction of the railway. A gravel route had to be laid for the railway. This material was found at the current location of the Forellensee and was cleared by hand from 1896 onwards. This created a depression of up to 2.8m. This also led to smaller springs. A "Mönch" or level control was built to dam up a lake, which is drained via what is now Alt Simeruns.

The lake is now privately owned and is increasingly becoming a tourist destination and adventure site.

Schmützenried

A man named Schutz, who preferred to lie around doing nothing rather than earn his daily bread by hard work, was given the Ruttenwald forest to retire from the community of Zweisimmen, to which he was a burden. Here he could have gradually built up a home. Instead he begrudged all the people who had green meadows down in the valley their property. One day, when he was once again annoyed while working up high, a little man suddenly stood next to him and led him to a high rock face. To his amazement, the envious man saw a large gate in the gate from which bright lights shone. The little dwarf said: "This door, which only opens once every hundred years, leads to all the treasures of the world. Go in, choose, but choose wisely and do not miss the moment, otherwise you will have to stay inside. In an hour the door will close again for a whole century.” There stood the idler and stared at the immeasurable treasures in the earth’s womb. He would have liked to grab everything for himself, carry everything away. Now he grabbed a precious stone, now a chain or crown of gold, then again an unformed lump of gold, only to finally, undecided, put everything down again and
to find anything more valuable. In his heart he was only thinking how he could outbid his neighbors. In doing so he forgot how short the hour allotted to him was. It was over before he could come to a decision. Without being able to take the least of the treasures with him, he had to rush out to save his bare life.
