The natural area east of the airport is not only ideal for plane spotting, rollerblading or cycling. It also offers space for fantasy and legends for nature lovers, hikers and myth hunters.
The small natural pond still bubbles up the occasional golden sand, so the breeding ground for the legend is still intact.
legend
A little boy is said to have once watched the bubbles rising in fascination by the pond. When a mermaid emerged from them, he couldn't believe his eyes. He was completely enchanted by the sight of her. He was particularly taken with the beautiful ring on her hand. When he reached for it again, he fell into the pond.
The figure immediately pulled him deep down into the pond. Perplexed, he awoke at the bottom of the pond and saw a golden gate. Behind it was a whole city made of gold in which many more mermaids lived.
It was only hours later that the mayor found the boy unconscious at the edge of the pond. When he woke up, the stories of the golden gate bubbled out of him.
Access
The pond is located near the Römerhof (Jukerfarm). It is best to park in one of the "Planespotting" parking lots and walk or rollerblade along the tank track.
