In the heart of the municipality of Schaan, a striking new landmark has stood since 2024: the 35-meter-high tower on Dux. The modern wooden tower combines contemporary architecture with regional craftsmanship – and offers impressive views over the Rhine Valley.

Origin and construction

Construction of the observation tower began in April 2024, and it was officially opened in August 2024. Particular emphasis was placed on the use of local timber, which not only makes the building aesthetically pleasing but also establishes a clear connection to the region.

The structure blends harmoniously into the landscape on Dux Hill while simultaneously setting an architectural accent.

190 steps to the panorama

Those who climb the 190 steps reach a glass viewing platform at a height of 34 meters. From here, the view opens up over the Rhine Valley – with the towns of Schaan and Buchs SG on the opposite Swiss side.

Prominent peaks are visible on the horizon:

  • Alvier

  • Fulfirst

  • Gamsberg

  • Further north, the impressive Säntis

Especially on clear days, a wide panorama of the Alps unfolds here, delighting both locals and visitors.

A place for movement and vision

The tower on Dux is not only a viewpoint, but also a destination for walkers, families, and nature lovers. The combination of physical activity – the 190 steps are definitely noticeable – and the subsequent view makes the visit a short but worthwhile experience.

Whether as a short detour or as part of a hike around Schaan: The tower on Dux offers a new view of a familiar landscape – and shows how modern wooden architecture and nature experience can convincingly come together.
