The Altberg ridge is a chain of hills that reaches as far as the city of Zurich. A recreational area full of forest and nature stretches out near Hüttikerberg and Dänikon. The Altberg can be reached quickly from the Limmattal and Furttal and offers a phenomenal view of the northern suburbs and the Alps. When the sun is shining, the view from the observation tower extends from the Säntis in the east to the Glarus Alps in the south and even to the 4000m peaks of the Bernese Oberland in the west.

147 steps lead up to the tower, which is just over 30 metres high. It is just high enough to reach above the surrounding fir trees, allowing the panorama to be uninterrupted. Since 2010, the tower has stood on the grounds of the Waldschenke Altberg, where, after enjoying the view, a detour for a delicious platter and a good wine is more than worthwhile.

legend

Halfway from Hüttikerberg there is a Chindlistein. In Alemannic, this is the name given to rocks that are considered the place of origin of children. A fertility cult is often associated with it. The Chindlistein in Hüttikon is a boulder. The custom is traced back to the Celts or even to the megalithic culture. In many places it is said: "This is where the midwife brings the newborns." It is said that fertility is increased when women "slide down the Chindlistein with their bottoms exposed." This is how wishes to have children come true.

Directions

The observation tower can only be reached on foot or by bike. There are parking spaces in all surrounding communities, from which you can reach the tower in about 30 to 45 minutes.
