In the middle of the Black Forest, a wonderful jewel rushes down the cliff: the Todtnau Waterfall is a jewel of sparkling water and plunges down the slope in five stages for almost a hundred meters. This makes it one of the most impressive cascades in Germany.

background

The waterfall is formed by the Stübenbach, which rises in the Stübenwasen area in the Feldberg region. The Giessen was formed during the last ice ages by glacier erosion on a geological fault line.

The Schatzstein monolith is located 300 meters east of the upper falls. Signs that are not yet clearly interpreted have been carved into this stone. All that is known is that they are surveyor's signs indicating the location of the pits in the area above the waterfall. Halfway along a path from Aftersteg to the waterfalls there is a grotto dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

The Treasure Stone

The mystery of the treasure stone by the waterfall has remained forever hidden. 15 strange symbols are carved into the monolith. Some say they are runes that adorn a Celtic cult site. Others talk of a treasure map. Some time ago, the last theory was confirmed. It is a map that shows the way to a treasure. But to this day, this has not been found.

Access

The waterfall is freely accessible. It is worth incorporating the recently opened suspension bridge a little further up into the excursion.
