South of Neuburg near Winterthur lies the Chomberg. On its northern slope there are now eight small springs. The fountain saint Pirminius is said to have settled at one of these springs in the 8th century. Inside the cave, water merrily trickles down from the sandstone rocks and in winter impressive icicles hang from the ceiling.

Primin

Pirmin, who was born around 690, is said to have come from Ireland. As an itinerant preacher, he first moved to the island of Reicihenau in Lake Constance and later founded the Hornbach Abbey. He died only after he had founded a total of 12 monasteries. He did not found a monastery in Pfungen, but a spring was named after him.

Access

The spring can be easily reached on foot from Tössrain or Neuburg. You can park at the Dättnau clay pit, for example. A detour to the nature reserve there is worthwhile.
