Over thousands of years, one of the most beautiful raised bogs in the canton of Zurich was created near Rifferswil, exactly where the Reuss and Linth glaciers came together and left their moraines behind. From the 1950s onwards, Robert Seleger from Adliswil cultivated the spot into an impressive park full of azaleas and rhododendrons in all colours. After a severe winter frost, in which many of his plants perished, Seleger set out in search of hardy plants from all over the world. He travelled to the Pacific coast, Canada, Alaska, Russia, China, Japan and even Nepal in order to obtain a robust breeding base.
