The Tamina Gorge runs from Bad Ragaz along the Tamina and is located between Valens and Bonadivis. In parts, the gorge is completely covered by nature. The crevice is around 750 m long and up to 70 m deep. A warm spring rises at the back. The water is said to cure circulatory diseases, rheumatism and paralysis. People have been bathing in this water since 1240.
It is not certain whether the river first ate its way through the limestone in a narrow channel and then the natural bridge was formed, or whether the Tamina ate its way through the harder limestone and the gorge was thus actually a cave at first.
The heat of the water creates a steamy image that resembles a mystical grotto.
Access
From Bad Ragaz, the path to the gorge leads along the Tamina. Parking is available in several car parks and parking garages in the village. If you can't manage the hour-long walk in both directions, you can take the local bus.
