Nobody knows who built the Wartau. Only dendrochronological studies have revealed pieces of wood from around 1225. The architects are probably the Barons of Wildenberg. The castle was abandoned around 1530 and left to decay. As if a tooth had fallen out of the owner's crown, the keep stands out with its incomplete surroundings. Much more impressive than the history, however, is the view over the Rhine Valley. The view of the plain and the mountains is nothing short of breathtaking.
