La Brévine can proudly call itself the coldest corner of Switzerland. At almost 42 degrees below freezing, the lowest temperature ever recorded in Switzerland was recorded here in the 1980s.

But that alone is unlikely to attract many people to the Jura - perhaps those who really want to experience themselves again. However, Switzerland's second largest cold air lake has much more in store for nature lovers.

A walk around the frozen Lake Taillères in winter is a great way to relax the restless city dweller. Equipped with snowshoes, cross-country skis or even ice skates, the activity level can be increased even further.

Population and economy

The high valley was much more densely populated until the end of the nineteenth century, before rural exodus set in. Today, 700 mostly French-speaking residents live in La Brévine.

The village of La Brévine has a watch factory and almost only agriculture as its economic activity. It is worth visiting one or two traditional Jura farms. For timepiece enthusiasts, a visit to a watch factory is a must.
