The devil at the Dallenwiler Bridge
Many years ago, at the place where the Dallenwiler bridge now crosses the Aawasser, one of them would sometimes stand at nightfall. Nobody knew who he was, and so people didn't dare cross the bridge. A few Dallenwil boys wanted to find out, to take a closer look at the strange stranger and beat him up. When they arrived there in the dark, the stranger was already standing there. One of the boys said: "You have no business being there, and you have no business being there." But the sinister stranger didn't move. Then Loränz, who was the strongest, said: "I'll be able to take on that black, skinny plegger," and he went after the stranger. But Loränz came across the wrong man. Finally the other boys became afraid and called out: "Shall we help you?" Loränz said: "Nothing will help unless God helps us!" When Loränz said "God helps us," the sinister black man howled and jumped from the bridge into the Aawasser. The boys carried the beaten and exhausted Loränz home.
