On the cantonal border between Solothurn and Bern lies the Burgäschisee, which is not only picturesque to look at, but also boasts a long history of human culture. The moor lake is ideal for boating, swimming, or a leisurely stroll along the shore.

Story

Prehistoric settlements were located in four areas of the flat lake shore. The sites Burgäschisee-Nord and Burgäschisee-Ost from the Neolithic period have been particularly well researched. Pile dwellers settled on the shores of the moor lake as early as 6,000 years ago. In the 12th century, the lords of Äschi built a castle, but it was completely destroyed in a battle 200 years later. The only thing that still reminds us of the medieval era of knights, castle lords and minstrels is the name of the town.

The sites where evidence of the lake's turbulent past was found have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011.

There are parking spaces at the Seeblick restaurant. In the Äschi Volg store you can buy various fishing permits. A little to the southwest of the lido you can also have a barbecue on a lawn and often swim in the lake as early as May.
