From Boudry, the trail leads over stone bridges, hand-blasted tunnels and stairs through the cool valley of the Areuse. The narrow path stretches for over 11 km and reveals a true spectacle of forest, water and rock formations. Particularly in autumn, when the fog forces its way through the steep rocks, unique images of natural beauty emerge.

Flora and fauna

With a little luck, a good eye will spot a river trout or a dipper on the Areuse. Perhaps a grey heron is waiting for a meal. Other animals are more inconspicuous; you have to look more closely. Where the water is a little calmer in the Areuse gorges, there are caddisfly larvae.

Access

From Neuchâtel, you can take the train to Noiraigue or Champ-du-Moulin, then return by tram from Boudry. Halfway there, we recommend a visit to the Restaurant de La Truite in Champ-du-Moulin, which serves many regional specialties. There are also a few parking spaces at the entrance to the gorge, before and after the railway bridge.
