Near the source of the Thur on the southern slope of the Säntis in the canton of St. Gallen, the stream overcomes a cliff in two cascades of 10 to 13 meters in height. When the snow melts, an impressive natural spectacle occurs.

The three viewing platforms and the entrances carved into the rocks as well as the gallery on the lowest level allow the curious to reach almost to the water and reflect amidst the power of nature.

Those who particularly enjoy hiking will find a strenuous hike to the source of the Thur. The area above the waterfalls is a karst region full of cracks, crevices and karst holes. Underground lakes, channels and holes are common. The search for the source of the Thur is therefore not easy, but it is a special exploration.

Idda from Toggenburg

Ida is said to have been the daughter of a count of Kirchberg near Ulm and married to a count of Toggenburg. According to legend, a bird once stole Ida's wedding ring. The ring was found by a hunter in the raven's nest. When her husband noticed the beautiful piece on the hunter's hand, he accused Ida of adultery. He had the hunter murdered. In anger, he threw Ida out of the window of his castle. She was saved because of her innocence. Later tracked down in her hermitage, the miscarriage of justice was cleared up, but Ida wanted to continue to dedicate her life to God as a hermit. Her repentant husband later had a hermitage built for her in the Au near Fischingen monastery, where she died with a reputation for holiness.
