At the site where the Liebenberg ruins once stood, there are now only a few piles of stones and a barbecue area. And yet history comes to life again when you go to the site.

Story

Liebenberg Castle was located on a protruding conglomerate rock and consisted mainly of a tower and residential buildings, which were surrounded by a wall. In the east it was protected by a moat. Apart from the remains of the foundations in the east, nothing remains of the castle, which was built in 1170. But not much is known about the castle. The first lord of the castle is said to have been Berthold Schenk von Liebenberg. The residential tower then passed to the Kyburgs and later to the Habsburgs.

The coal-black man

At a place in the Tösstal that the narrator does not mention, boys and girls were "zLiecht" one Sunday night. They talked about all sorts of things. When there was nothing left to talk about, one of them got a book and grabbed it to read aloud. They loved the story and read on. But how terrible! A coal-black man slowly entered through the closed door and sat down on a bench next to the door. The girl's father had to get up and read back word for word. That same evening, a regrettable misfortune struck this family.

Access

The hilltop castle is located in a forest above the Tösstal, east of Kollbrunn in the municipality of Zell, and can be reached via a steep but short climb.
