The Nünegg castle ruins in Lieli near Hohenrain are well-preserved and lovingly restored castle ruins belonging to the Lords of Lieli. The name comes from its characteristic shape with nine corners. The castle was first mentioned in the thirteenth century and has been owned by the Canton of Lucerne since the eighteenth century. In between, an eventful history has unfolded. Built in the thirteenth century, the castle was renovated from the ground up at least once. After the Lords of Lieli died out, the castle changed hands many times and went up in flames during the Battle of Sempach.

Vicinity

The area surrounding the castle ruins is stunning. The view of Lake Baldegg and the Alps with a direct view of the Rigi, the Pilatus and the entire first mountain range is unique. After the snow melts, the hilly surroundings are not only ideal for long walks between Lindenberg and the Seetal, but also offer a varied and winding ride on two wheels.

Viewing platform

During the restoration a few years ago, a spiral staircase was installed in the keep, which leads to a viewing platform. From a dizzying height, the climber can see the entire surrounding area for over a hundred kilometers.
