Reopening its doors in 2017 after 9 years of construction, the Bürgenstock Resort is a true mountaintop gem, comprising four luxurious hotels, exclusive wellness facilities and a variety of gourmet restaurants to satisfy even the most discerning palates.

In the middle of picturesque central Switzerland, the Bürgenstock Resort is perched on a spectacular mountain ridge and offers an incomparable view over the glittering Lake Lucerne. With a size of 1 km and an area of 60 hectares, the resort is a truly impressive landmark of the Bürgenstock, captivating visitors from all over the world.

The chain around the mountain

It is said that the Bürgenberg, also known as Bürgenstock, on the shores of the idyllic Waldstättersee near Lucerne, has a mysterious split. This split is held together by a golden chain or, depending on the story, by a sturdy iron rod. It is said that the future of the city of Lucerne depends on this connection.

Legend has it that if the connecting piece of chain or iron bar ever fell into the depths of the lake, an ominous prophecy would come true: the city of Lucerne would sink beneath the lake's waters. For this reason, the link is carefully guarded and regularly checked to ensure it remains strong and intact.

This mystical tale has fascinated residents and visitors to the region for generations and helps to surround the Bürgenberg and the Waldstättersee with an aura of mystery and awe.

Access

The Bürgenstock is accessible by car from Ennetbürgen. However, a more exciting way to get there is by boat from Lucerne via the Hammetschwand lift.
