A narrow path leads over numerous carefully maintained bridges along the Altbach through the forest to the Giessenfall. At this point the stream plunges an impressive 40 meters into the depths, while from below you have a picturesque view of the waterfall and the small pond. Directly above the Giessenfall, a picnic area with tables, benches and a fireplace offers the perfect opportunity to take a break and enjoy the surroundings.

The story of the Zapfämannlis and the mussel fairy

Many hundreds of years ago, a small community of men and women lived in the forests of southern Thurgau. They fed themselves and their children on berries, roots and hunting animals. The women tanned the hides of the animals they killed into leather and skillfully sewed trousers and cloaks. The men wore these items of clothing when hunting, decorating them with pine cones and carrying pine twigs on their heads to camouflage themselves from the game. The Zapfämannlis, as they were called, killed animals to feed their families.
