Streams, forests and a swamp lake invite you to take short and long hikes between Jestetten and Osterfingen in the Klettgau. The small Randen offers a view over a picturesque hilly landscape. In the 16th century, a lake ditch was dug to drain the area. This is how the water now flows via the Wutach into the Rhine. The Wüster See offers protection and habitat for birds, frogs and even beavers have become native here again. With a bit of luck, hikers will catch a glimpse of a beaver at work. On the Swiss side there is a national conservation area. On the German side there is the Kappelenhalde - Wüster See nature reserve. Here you can find numerous of the rare snowdrops.

Stories and poems

Ruth Blum, a well-known romantic poet, was very fond of Schaffhausen's most beautiful valley. "To the east, the two forests that surround the Ried meet at a sharp angle. That is where Germany begins. The customs officers sit in small sentry boxes and guard the border. The forest hill south of the road is also Baden. A deep, rushing ravine cuts it in half. An ancient pilgrimage route leads along the Mühlenbach stream over the hill to the Rafzerfeld." She writes:

Thus, a grey stone, a green rafter

A pitiful symbol of limited humanity

Meanwhile, happy about herbs and ferns

An oriole sails in the open sky.
