background
In 1995, to mark the 100th anniversary of D. Swarovski KG, André Heller created the Swarovski Crystal Worlds, an art museum in the form of a gigantic giant. Inside this giant are exhibition rooms that are based on the historical art and wonder cabinets of the noble houses of the 16th century. In the 18 underground wonder cabinets, artists, designers and architects such as Brian Eno, Tord Boontje, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jim Whiting, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Salvador Dalí and Yayoi Kusama interpret and present the material crystal in a variety of ways.
After opening in 1995, Swarovski Crystal Worlds was rebuilt and expanded several times in 1998, 2003 and 2007. Between October 2014 and April 2015, a comprehensive redesign and expansion took place at a cost of around 34 million euros, increasing the area from 3.5 to 7.5 hectares. The garden was expanded to include a "cloud" with 800,000 crystals, a play tower and the Daniels Crystal Worlds restaurant.
