The Strättligen ruins - also known as Strättliburg - are the ruins of a hilltop castle from the 13th century in the area of the former municipality of Strättligen above the district of Gwatt in the municipality of Thun. The breathtaking view of Lake Thun and the mountain backdrop is unique. The ruins were the ancestral castle of the Barons of Strättligen. The Barons of Strättligen were also the owners of Wimmis Castle. In 1332 the castle was razed by the Bernese. In 1699 the state of Bern built the powder tower on the castle ruins, which still stands today. Today the castle ruins are privately owned and are used for festivals.
