In the 12th century, knights had a castle built in the Bachtel region near Girenbad at an altitude of almost 800 metres. The steep slope towards the stream protected one side of the castle, while the other side was shielded by ditches. Today, the reconstructed gate and some of the fortifications are particularly worth seeing, set against an impressive landscape backdrop.

Story

The Lords of Bernegg are first mentioned at the beginning of the 13th century. There were close ties to the Lords of Landenberg. The noble family, which was under the control of the Counts of Rapperswil, was not quite as successful. The castle had to be sold in 1283 and was subsequently evacuated.
